Our take on the Speed Twin 900 and 1200

Hot rod performance in a modern classic suit. The Speed Twin 1200 blends exhilarating sports performance with agile, dynamic handling, and its 1200cc twin delivers 103.5 hp with 82.6 lb-ft of torque in the mid-range. It feels lively the moment you pull away and keeps pulling hard through every gear.

The 2026 Speed Twin 1200 carries 43mm Marzocchi upside-down forks with cartridge damping, twin rear shocks with adjustable preload, Optimized Cornering ABS, Road and Rain riding modes and a torque assist clutch.

Weighing 476 lb with a 31.7-inch seat, it is well balanced and manageable at any pace. A quick commute and a long canyon run both feel like time well spent, and the classic lines draw a second look wherever you stop.

What the reviewers say

  • “Turn-in response is immediate, with a steep rake angle combining with a relatively narrow 160/60-17 rear tire to deliver more agility than expected for a 476-lb roadster.”

RiderKevin Duke, December 2024Read the review on Rider (opens in a new tab)
  • “The 2025 Triumph Speed Twin 1200 is a base model that doesn’t feel basic. It goes, turns, and stops like the dickens and looks good doing it, too.”

Ultimate MotorcyclingNic de Sena, February 2025Read the review on Ultimate Motorcycling (opens in a new tab)
  • “The bike was always easy to ride a gear high while lazily connecting corners, but now with the dash of extra excitement up top, it’s equally exhilarating to keep the Twin singing between apexes.”

Updated for 2025

Triumph made no changes for 2026. The list below is what changed for 2025.

The Speed Twin 1200, photographed by Triumph
  • More power

The 1200 twin gains 5.5 hp, now 103.5 hp at 7,750 rpm with 82.6 ft-lb at 4,250 rpm, and pulls harder for longer toward the rev limit.

  • Cornering ABS and traction control

Lean-sensitive Optimized Cornering ABS and traction control are now standard, alongside the Road and Rain riding modes.

  • Upgraded suspension

The 1.7-inch Marzocchi upside-down fork and twin Marzocchi rear shocks are upgraded, and the shocks now carry remote reservoirs plus adjustable preload.

Everything new
  • Radial brakes, new tires

New Triumph-branded radial calipers grip twin 12.6-inch discs, and Metzeler Sportec M9RR tires come standard.

  • More open riding position

A higher handlebar opens up the cockpit, and the reshaped bench seat is narrower at the front, so it is easier to put your feet down.

  • New dash with USB-C

New LCD and TFT displays sit inside a classic round dial for better visibility. They are compatible with turn-by-turn navigation and phone connectivity, and hide a USB-C socket.

  • Refreshed styling

A more sculpted tank with a flip-up filler cap, an LED headlight with a daytime running light, new seven-spoke cast wheels and leaner black engine covers.

Speed Twin 1200MSRP $15,395
Speed Twin 1200 RS, Triumph studio image
Speed Twin 1200 RSMSRP $17,195

Choose the RS if you like to ride your Speed Twin hard. Öhlins rear shocks, Brembo Stylema brakes, Shift Assist, rearset footpegs and Metzeler Racetec RR K3 tires make it the sharper of the two on a fast back road.

Choose the Speed Twin 1200 if these features aren't important to you. It's the same 103.5 hp twin and Marzocchi fork, with your feet in a more relaxed spot, for $1,800 less.

More on these two

Which one fits your riding

The Speed Twin 1200: The Speed Twin 1200 is a modern classic that really goes. Reviewers say this base bike doesn't feel basic at all, and the big twin has torque everywhere, so it's happy lazing along a gear high or chasing a canyon road on Sunday morning.

The Speed Twin 1200 RS: The RS is the Speed Twin for riders who ride it like a sportbike. The Öhlins shocks and Stylema brakes give you more control when you push, and the rearsets put you in a sportier position for it.

What the Speed Twin 1200 RS adds

Everything in the Speed Twin 1200, plus:

  • Fully adjustable Öhlins rear shocks in place of the Marzocchis
  • Brembo Stylema calipers in place of Triumph-branded calipers
  • Triumph Shift Assist (Triumph lists it for the RS only)
  • A third riding mode, Sport
  • Rearset footpegs and Metzeler Racetec RR K3 tires
