Triumph Bonneville T120 vs. Speed Twin 1200

The same 1200 twin. One classic, one sporty.

Both have a Triumph 1200 twin and a six-speed gearbox. The real difference is character: the T120 is the Bonneville the way it has always looked, with spoked wheels and a relaxed position, and the Speed Twin 1200 is the sporty one, with more power, cast wheels and an upside-down fork.

Freeway and longer trips

The T120's relaxed position and standard cruise control make long, easy miles a pleasure. The Speed Twin is comfortable too, and cruise control is an accessory on it.

The difference: For long days, the T120 is the easier choice.

Weekend back roads

On Angeles Crest, the Speed Twin 1200 is the sharper one: reviewers say its turn-in is immediate, and they rave about how it goes, turns and stops. The T120 is happier at a flowing pace, with plenty of low-down torque.

The difference: The T120 is relaxed. The Speed Twin is sporty.

Around town

Both are easy in traffic. The Speed Twin is 38 lb lighter, and the T120's classic looks turn heads at every light.

The difference: Both are easy. The Speed Twin feels lighter.

T120 or Speed Twin 1200?

Same engine family, two different moods.

If you want the timeless Bonneville, spoked wheels and relaxed miles, the T120 is the classic.

If you want classic style with the handling and brakes to ride hard, the Speed Twin 1200 is the sporty choice. It's $1,400 more in MSRP.

Our advice: Decide between relaxed and sporty. The rest takes care of itself.

The best way to decide is to sit on both, back to back. We'll have them side by side for you.
