Our take on the Monster

It's a naked bike stripped to the essentials and instantly recognizable, a gorgeous, muscular shape as much at home on a quick city loop as on a weekend run through the hills.

That's a thrilling mix of punch and lightness. The Monster+ comes with a flyscreen and passenger seat cover.

Around town it's light and easy to manage, with a wide steering angle and a 32.1-inch seat over a narrow straddle that makes it simple to put your feet down. On an open road the V2 pulls smoothly at any engine speed with a satisfying growl, and the Quick Shift lets you snap through the gears without touching the clutch. Out in the hills it's pure fun.

What the reviewers say

  • “You're never forcing or fighting things, and when we encountered a road punctuated by countless switchbacks, the Monster slowed, turned and drove out again with light-footed efficiency and zero drama.”

Cycle NewsAdam Child, March 2026Read the review on Cycle News (opens in a new tab)
  • “It's agile without feeling skittish, needing just a nudge on the inside bar to initiate a change of direction.”

MCNJustin Hayzelden, February 2026Read the review on MCN (opens in a new tab)
  • “Despite the rough city roads, potholes, speed bumps, uneven pavement, and random debris, the bike stayed composed and comfortable. It absorbed hits cleanly while still maintaining a sporty, controlled feel through corners.”

What’s new on the current Monster

This generation arrived for 2026.

The Monster+, photographed by Ducati
  • New 890cc V2 engine

The Testastretta gives way to the V2, about 13 lb lighter, with variable intake valve timing. It makes 110.7 hp, with more than 80% of peak torque between 4,000 and 10,000 rpm for smooth, easy drive.

  • Valve checks every 28,000 miles

For the first time a Monster uses valve springs instead of desmodromics, and the valve clearance check moves out to 28,000 miles.

  • Lighter again

At 386 lb without fuel it is about 9 lb lighter than the outgoing bike, helped by a technopolymer and trellis subframe and a double-sided swingarm styled after the Panigale V4's.

Everything new
  • Lower, narrower seat and new bars

The seat is 0.2 inches lower at 32.1 inches and narrower, and the bars sit higher and further forward. Accessory seats and a lowering kit bring it down to 30.5 inches.

  • Showa suspension, softer-biting brakes

A Showa fork and preload-adjustable shock replace the previous KYB units, tuned for everyday comfort, and the Brembo M4.32 calipers use pads chosen for a gentler initial bite.

  • New modes and dash

Four riding modes (Sport, Road, Urban, Wet), a new 5-inch TFT run by a petal joystick, and Quick Shift 2.0 as standard.

Monster SPMSRP $15,995

Choose the SP if you ride hard. Fully adjustable Öhlins suspension, Brembo Stylema brakes and the 937cc Testastretta twin make it the sportiest Monster.

Choose the Monster+ if you want the easiest Ducati to live with. It has the new 890 V2, its seat sits 1 in lower, and it costs $2,000 less.

More on these two

Which one fits your riding

The Monster+: The Monster+ is the Monster for everyday riding. It's light and low, easy in traffic and still lively on a back road.

The Monster SP: The SP is the Monster for riders who do track days or want to start. Reviewers call it a heap of fun on a curvy road and the Stylema brakes the gold standard, and some say it feels more like a big motard than a naked bike.

What the Monster SP adds

Everything in the Monster+, plus:

  • Fully adjustable Öhlins NIX30 fork in place of the Showa
  • Brembo Stylema calipers in place of M4.32s
  • The 937cc Testastretta twin in place of the 890cc V2
