Triumph Tiger Sport 800 vs. Tiger 900

Two Triumph triples for the long way. One sport tourer, one adventure tourer.

Both are comfortable, fast triples built for big days. The real difference is the road: the Tiger Sport 800 is a sport tourer for paved roads, the Tiger 900 GT Pro Alpine Edition is an adventure tourer with a 19-inch front wheel for when the pavement ends.

Choose the Tiger 900 if…

  • You want the option of a gravel road.
  • You ride two-up with luggage.
  • You want heated grips, hand guards and engine protection bars as standard.

Which one fits your riding style?

Here's where the difference shows up on the road.

Freeway and longer trips

Both cruise comfortably, with cruise control as standard. The Tiger 900 adds heated grips, hand guards and a full-color 7-inch screen, and reviewers praise its long-distance comfort.

The difference: Both make the trip. The Tiger 900 is better dressed for it.

Weekend back roads

On Angeles Crest, the Tiger Sport 800 feels more agile and direct, and its triple loves to rev. The Tiger 900's T-plane triple pulls strongly low down.

The difference: The Tiger Sport is sportier. The Tiger 900 pulls harder down low.

Gravel roads and camping trips

The Tiger 900 has a 19-inch front wheel and adventure tires, so a fire road to a campsite is part of the plan. The Tiger Sport 800 is made for pavement.

The difference: If the trip ends on dirt, choose the Tiger 900.

Is the Tiger 900 worth the step up?

It comes down to whether your road trips stay on pavement.

If they do, the Tiger Sport 800 is lighter, sportier and quick, and it covers big miles beautifully.

If you want the option of gravel, a passenger and luggage, and more equipment as standard, the Tiger 900 earns its keep. The step up is $4,650 in MSRP.

Our advice: Picture your favorite trip. If there's a dirt road in it, that's your answer.

The best way to decide is to sit on both, back to back. We'll have them side by side for you.
