Our take on the Scrambler 900 and 1200

Classic scrambler style meets modern capability on the Scrambler 1200 X. Its 1200cc Bonneville twin is tuned for responsive torque, all 81.1 lb-ft of it, with a distinctive exhaust note that makes every gear change worth hearing. The balanced chassis feels agile on a twisty road and confident on a dirt trail.

Choose Matte Khaki Green or Sapphire Black.

Accessible ergonomics make it easy to ride all day, and the brushed high-level silencers give it the look of a proper scrambler. Take it to work on Friday, then take it exploring on Saturday, and you will find every road and trail feels like an invitation.

What the reviewers say

  • “The combination of fully adjustable Öhlins shocks at the rear and a Showa fork at the front delivers plenty of comfort without feeling spongy. Bumps are smoothly absorbed, yet there's enough stability for brisk riding.”

1000PSGregor, April 2026Read the review on 1000PS (opens in a new tab)
  • “Despite the Scrambler 1200 XE’s nearly 10 inches of suspension travel and 21-inch front wheel, its handling feels neutral and confident on pavement.”

RiderGreg Drevenstedt, January 2024Read the review on Rider (opens in a new tab)
  • “With this wheelbase, and that diesel-engine torque, breaking rear-wheel traction and steering with the rear is one of the most delectable riding characteristics the Scrambler has to offer.”

2025 vs. 2026 Triumph Scrambler 900

2025
$11,404
2026
$13,080 (executive demo)

The lowest-priced 2025 is $1,676 less than the lowest-priced 2026. Lowest Total Price on the bikes we have listed.

What changed for 2026

  • Stiffer, lighter chassis. A redesigned tubular steel frame now pairs with an aluminum swingarm in place of the old steel one, adding rigidity and cutting weight.
  • Showa suspension. New 1.7-inch Showa upside-down forks replace the old conventional fork, and twin Showa piggyback shocks with adjustable preload sit at the rear. Travel is 4.7 inches at each end.
  • Stronger front brake. A larger 12.6-inch front disc with a radial four-piston caliper gives stronger, more progressive stopping.
  • Cornering ABS and traction control. Lean-sensitive Optimized Cornering ABS and traction control, run by an IMU, replace the previous switchable systems. Off-road mode still turns off rear ABS for loose ground.
  • Lighter wheels, dual-purpose tires. New lightweight aluminum rims, 19 inches front and 17 rear, cut unsprung weight and wear Metzeler Tourance dual-purpose tires for quicker steering.
  • New dash and USB-C. A round housing holds an LCD with an integrated color TFT screen. The optional Bluetooth module adds phone, music and turn-by-turn navigation, a USB-C port is standard, and cruise control is a dealer-fit accessory.
  • Sharper styling. A more angular 3.2-gallon tank with a new filler cap, new side panels, slimmer fenders, full LED lighting and a reshaped two-piece seat on a narrower rear subframe.

Choose the XE if you're serious about off-road. It has 9.8 in of travel at both ends on fully adjustable Showa and Öhlins suspension, Brembo brakes and cruise control. It's tall, and it's built for riders who'll use all of it.

Choose the X if these features aren't important to you. It's the same 1200 twin, with a seat 2 in lower, for $2,150 less.

More on these two

Which one fits your riding

The Scrambler 1200 X: The X is the big scrambler for the road. The lower seat makes it easy to manage at a stop, the twin has torque everywhere, and the 21-inch front and tubeless spokes mean a gravel road is still on the menu.

The Scrambler 1200 XE: The XE is the one that goes looking for trouble. Reviewers call it the bike for serious dirt work, and the long travel and Off-Road Pro mode back that up. If you're picturing a desert trail rather than a canyon road, it's worth the extra seat height.

What the Scrambler 1200 XE adds

Everything in the Scrambler 1200 X, plus:

  • Showa fork and Öhlins rear shocks with 9.8 in of travel, in place of Marzocchi with 6.7 in
  • Brembo M4.30 radial monobloc calipers with 320 mm discs
  • Cruise control (Triumph lists it for the XE only)
  • A sixth riding mode, Off-Road Pro
  • Backlit switchgear
