Our take on the Burgman 400
Twist the throttle and the fully automatic CVT delivers smooth, linear acceleration that gets you moving briskly with no clutch or shifting to think about, and the 400cc single has the strong low and midrange pull to merge onto the freeway with real confidence. The large 15-inch front wheel keeps the steering steady and neutral at highway speed, and it sweeps through corners with a smooth, motorcycle-like feel that will surprise anyone who thinks scooters are dull.
Commuting is where it shines, and it has a way of making the daily ride the part of the day you look forward to. The seat sits at 29.7 inches, the plush two-up saddle makes sharing the ride easy, and the bodywork tucks the wind around your legs and torso.
What the reviewers say
“In corners and intersections the scoot handles smoothly and easily, too, exhibiting none of the tendency to fall in or oversteer often found on scooters with smaller wheels.”
RiderMark Tuttle, February 2018Read the review on Rider (opens in a new tab) “Grab a handful of throttle and you'll be joining the race to the next off-ramp in a few seconds. Merging onto freeways won't trigger anxiety attacks.”
Cycle NewsKit Palmer, March 2018Read the review on Cycle News (opens in a new tab) “Handling is nicely intuitive, with plenty of cornering clearance.”

Questions riders ask
What's the seat height?
Suzuki lists 29.7 inches. The Burgman 400 has a curb weight of 481 pounds and a 62.2-inch wheelbase, and the T-handle parking brake holds the rear wheel when you park.
How much can it carry?
The under-seat compartment holds 42 liters, enough for two helmets depending on their size and shape, with switchable lights inside. Up front there are 2.8-liter and 3.5-liter compartments, and a top case is available through Suzuki Genuine Accessories.
Does it need shifting?
No. The fully automatic CVT with a centrifugal clutch handles everything, so you twist and go and the fun starts right away. Traction control and ABS are standard, and Easy Start fires the engine with a single press of the button while you hold the front brake.
