Triumph Street Triple 765 vs. Speed Triple 1200

Two naked triples. One sharp middleweight, one big hitter.

Both are Triumph's sporty naked triples, with Öhlins at the back and that unmistakable triple howl. The real difference is how each one delivers it: the Street Triple carries speed through corners, the Speed Triple drives out of them with a lot more muscle.

Which one fits your riding style?

Here's where the difference shows up on the road.

Weekend back roads

On Angeles Crest, the Street Triple is the one you place exactly where you want it. It's 24 lb lighter, and the 765 triple loves to rev. The Speed Triple's 94.4 lb-ft drives out of every corner with a lot less effort, and its semi-active Öhlins adjust to the road as you go.

The difference: The Street Triple rewards precision. The Speed Triple rewards a heavy right hand.

Track days

Both are at home on track. Reviewers call the Street Triple's 765 one of the sweetest engines around, and its friendly position makes it a cinch to ride fast. The Speed Triple brings 52.3 hp more, which you'll feel on every straight.

The difference: The Street Triple is the one you'll push harder. The Speed Triple is the one that pulls harder.

Freeway and long days

Reviewers say the Speed Triple turns into a comfortable roadster on the way home, with cruise control and keyless ignition as standard. The Street Triple is happy on the freeway too, but it's at its best when the road starts to bend.

The difference: Both make the trip. The Speed Triple makes the ride home easier.

Is the Speed Triple worth the step up?

It comes down to how you like to go fast.

If your idea of a perfect morning is a tight canyon road or a track day, the Street Triple gives you everything you'll use, in the lighter, sharper package.

If you want huge pull from any speed, suspension that adjusts itself and a comfortable ride home, the Speed Triple earns its place. The step up is $8,450 in MSRP.

Our advice: Be honest about where you ride. Most riders never run out of Street Triple, but nobody regrets the Speed Triple's pull on a long, fast day.

The best way to decide is to sit on both, back to back. We'll have them side by side for you.
