Last weekend my two best friends Tommy, Doug, and I went to the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band concert in Indio. We had the best time! Since the temperature was 110 that day we decided not to ride. So we piled in Tommy’s truck and headed out of town.
The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band has been a favorite band of ours for over 35 years. We each have seen them multiple times and always enjoy their music. In fact, Tommy and I shared the stage with them at the Long Beach Cal State Bluegrass festival back in 1979!
I have been riding motorcycles with Doug for 55 years and Tommy for over 48 years! We spent the entire trip there and back regaling ourselves by talking about so many of our rides, our motorcycles, and the things we have done on them together for all the years. It was so fantastic spending that time with the two guys I love and respect more than any blood brother.
Back in 1976 we started a motorcycle club called the “Road Toads" and we proudly wore our “colors” everywhere for years. We raced, toured, crashed, rode together, and stood by each other through good and bad marriages.
These two guys have been by my side and helped me in every way that best friends and brothers do for each other. I am very lucky to have several close friends that I ride with and are in my life. Tommy and Doug are my oldest and closest. I love these guys!
I hope that every one of you has someone close to ride with and share your life to create great stories.

Bagania Wins at Red Bull Ring
Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia won in Austria, leading every lap but the first (led by his strongest opponent, Jorge Martín on Pramac Ducati) despite higher temperatures that caused front wheel locking and brake discs exceeding their operating temperature range. All MotoGP bikes carry software that constantly computes whether or not fuel will be exhausted before the checkered flag if the remaining laps consume fuel at the present rate. When the warning appears on the dash, the rider can select one of several reduced-power modes to make the fuel last. He can moderate his riding. He can pay no attention and “just go fer it.” Also on the dash are tire pressures, the front being of special importance during drafting in the hot Austrian conditions.
Triumph Racing Narrowly Misses Budds Creek Podium
Triumph Racing rode a wave of momentum into Budds Creek, Maryland, for the penultimate round of the 2024 AMA Pro Motocross Championship, thanks to a historic podium at the previous event. The popular track was another welcome chapter in the TF 250-X's maiden trip through the SuperMotocross World Championship season.
Jalek Swoll, hot off of his podium appearance, underlined his potential to collect consistent silverware, as he missed a top-three position by the narrowest of margins. A sixth in moto one was a solid start – he had to push from outside of the top 10 to reach that position in what was an impressive effort. Much like last week, it was the second moto where he shined. The '33' launched off the start line aboard his TF 250-X and held third for much of the stint before dropping to fourth in the closing stages. A 6-4 scorecard was enough for fifth in the 250MX overall classification. Swoll enters the final fixture with a realistic shot at sixth in the final championship standings.
A fifth place in moto one was a better indication of the speed that Joey Savatgy possesses, but a challenging start in moto two made it was difficult to repeat that score. The '17' finished lap one outside of the top 20 and entered 'salvage mode' as he stormed up the scoreboard. Unfortunately, he failed to reach the chequered flag and so he had to rely on his 17 points from moto one to slot into 14th overall. Savatgy continues to hold 12th in the 250MX championship standings.
The 2024 AMA Pro Motocross season will conclude at Ironman Raceway, near Indianapolis, next weekend. The SuperMotocross World Championship playoffs will be prioritised after that – the first is set to be run at Charlotte Motor Speedway on September 7.
