Protect your feet!

I witnessed two incidents on the Isle of Man of a simple motorcycle tip over while virtually stopped. One resulted in two broken bones when the bike fell on the person’s foot. The rider was wearing “touring boots” which were designed more for rain and weather protection than strength to protect the foot from impact or twisting.

There are many boots out today and the ones that protect the most are motocross boots. They are extremely thick and protective, but you clomp around when you walk, and they don’t give much ankle movement to shift. They are the most protective, but you have to learn how to ride with them. There are various other style boots such as trials, adventure touring, road race and touring to choose from. Think about how much protection you want and what you are willing to put up with, as far as some difficulty to use.

DO NOT ride without ankle protection! I had a friend years ago, that destroyed his ankle bone when his foot got stuck under the bike as he was sliding along after falling over. You want your rides to be great, and when they are done you want to go home safe, thinking how much fun you just had!

Like your helmet, don’t scrimp on getting quality product and solid protection.

Ducati CEO Rides and Talks MotoE

Claudio Domenicali on Ducati V21L electric race bike.

Ducati’s first electric motorcycle, the V21L prototype that will compete in the FIM MotoE World Cup starting in 2023, was officially presented on June 30th just outside Modena at Casa Maria Luigia, an elegant villa run run by 3-star Michelin chef Massimo Bottura.

From first sight it was clear that in many ways Ducati’s MotoE project is the opposite of all the electric motorcycle projects which have gone before. With Ducati’s motorcycle engineering know-how, support from experience parent company Audi, and the dedication of the Ducati Corse racing department, a prototype has been created specifically for MotoE, rather than adapting an existing road bike to transform it into a racing machine.

As with every motorbike built at Borgo Panigale, the design of the V21L started from a white piece of paper. There was full collaboration between the race department, the street bike development center, and the creative pencil of the Centro Stile.
