Ducati Diavel vs. XDiavel

The same V4. Two very different ways to ride it.

Both share Ducati's 168 hp V4, the same front brakes and the same MSRP. The real difference is where your feet go and how you like to ride: the Diavel sits you up over the pegs like a fast naked, and the XDiavel stretches you out like a cruiser.

Choose the Diavel if…

  • You want a muscle bike that loves a twisty road.
  • You like your feet under you and your weight over the pegs.
  • You want huge acceleration from a riding position you can live with all day.

Choose the XDiavel if…

  • You want to stretch out, feet forward, on long, easy days.
  • You want a seat that sits a little lower.
  • You ride unfamiliar roads and want turn-by-turn navigation on a bigger screen.
  • You often take a passenger along.

Which one fits your riding style?

Here's where the difference shows up on the road.

Around town

Both have the same 168 hp V4, so neither is short of shove from a light. The Diavel's upright, naked-bike position makes it easy to place in traffic. The XDiavel's forward controls feel relaxed at a cruise, and its seat sits 0.8 in lower when you stop.

The difference: Both are easy to live with. The Diavel feels more nimble, the XDiavel more laid back.

Canyon roads

On Glendora Mountain Road or Angeles Crest, the Diavel is the one that wants to play. With your feet under you and, reviewers say, more cornering clearance, it's been called the sportiest cruiser you can buy. The XDiavel is quick too, with the same V4 and brakes, but it rewards a smooth rhythm more than late braking.

The difference: The Diavel attacks the corners. The XDiavel flows through them.

Long days and freeway miles

Feet forward and a lower seat make the XDiavel the more relaxed of the two over a long day, and its 6.9-inch screen with turn-by-turn navigation helps on roads you don't know. The Diavel is comfortable for a muscle bike, but it's built for the fast parts of the ride more than the miles in between.

The difference: For all-day touring, the XDiavel. For a fast loop and home for lunch, the Diavel.

Riding with a passenger

Both carry a passenger. The XDiavel adds passenger handles and a wider passenger seat, which your passenger will notice on a longer ride.

The difference: Two-up now and then, either one. Two-up often, the XDiavel.

Which Diavel is right for you?

It comes down to how you like to sit and where you like to ride.

If your favorite rides are short, fast and full of corners, the Diavel is the sportier of the two, and it never stops feeling special.

If you'd rather stretch out and roll for hours, with a passenger now and then, the XDiavel's feet-forward comfort, lower seat and navigation make it the better companion. They're the same MSRP, so pick the one that fits the way you ride.

Our advice: Sit on both. Where your feet and hands land tells you more than any spec sheet.

The best way to decide is to sit on both, back to back. We'll have them side by side for you.
