24 years ago this month I got the keys to 515 W. Lambert Road and began my dream to open a motorcycle dealership. The location had been a jet ski repair shop, and I was determined to make it Southern California Triumph.
So began the task of tearing out walls, ceilings, and completely remodeling it so that it would work as a motorcycle dealership. I didn’t have the money to hire a contractor so some of my friends, who I call my brothers, some family and I went about the work. I had been a carpenter when I was young and still had the tools and some expertise in remodeling. It was a huge undertaking, and the help of my loved ones was priceless!
It took exactly 60 days and Southern California Triumph opened on April 4th, 2000. I had little money and credit, so I wound up opening the doors with 6 new Triumph motorcycles and a couple of Beta Trials bikes. I had a very small amount of accessories and stuff to hang on the wall so my dear friend Hector Cademartori lent me many of his motorcycle paintings to fill up wall space.
Most everyone I knew in the industry and many others said I was crazy and would fail trying to open a single line Triumph dealership. Well, with the help of loved ones like Doug Edwards, Tom Haack, Bill Landers, Cyndy, and many others, as well as the incredible customers I have been so privileged to serve, Southern California Triumph went on to become the number one Triumph dealership of all time in North America and still maintains that number one status every year!
I've told you before...I am the luckiest man alive!
