Back in “my day” we didn’t have track days or schools that train you how to go fast on a racetrack like my friend Keith Code does with his California Superbike school.
I learned how to go fast by being completely stupid and going way too fast up in the twisties of the local mountains. No runoff room, rough roads, rocks, sand and debris on the road, and of course water and oil where you couldn’t see it made those rides more than just dangerous. And to top it off I didn’t wear the proper protective gear! I rode the twisties with my friends like we were racing the Isle of Man.
I am so lucky I’m about to see my 72nd birthday because I really should have died a hundred time riding the way I did. Unfortunately, there are many riders today that either don’t realize or don’t know there are opportunities to become race track proficient in a much, much safer way.
Today you can go out and do a track day at various racetracks and use your own bike. You should already have proper riding gear but if you don’t most sponsoring organizations have gear to rent.
The first track day you attend will go like this: You will attend a class first, then go out onto the track while being carefully watched by the instructors. When that track session ends you go back into the classroom. This goes on for the entire day. On the next track day you attend you won’t have to attend classes. There are usually three rider levels on the track: new rider, intermediate and advanced.
I cannot express how valuable these track days are, not only if you want to become a racer but also, they will make you such a better rider! You can take your motorcycle to both yours and its limits in a more controlled and safer setting. God forbid you go down, but if you do there is expert medical attention to you very quickly. Certainly not like the hour or more it would be if you crashed in the twisties.
California Superbike School
Or you can take a track school like Keith’s California Superbike School. They provide you with a bike, gear and the best training available! Cyndy went to two levels of Keith’s school on her own bike and came away a rider of a higher level capabilities!
Fastrack Riders Track Days
I believe every rider should go through training on a racetrack because it WILL make you a better more qualified rider so that you can experience the sport we all love in a much safe manner.

2025 Triumph Daytona 660 First Ride Review
Revival of the middleweight Daytona.
Sportbikes are making a comeback of sorts right now, especially in the middleweight class, albeit with lower-powered and more economical powerplants. Triumph hasn’t produced a normal production, fully faired sportbike since 2017, which was the final year of the Daytona 675R (the Daytona Moto2 765 was only made in limited numbers). Back then, Triumph—like the rest of its competitors—was still chasing supersport glory and building machines that put outright performance above everything else, even at the expense of practicality.
For 2025 (available in April of this year), Triumph has released its brand-new Daytona 660. But does this bike live up to the fabled Daytona name? Or is it simply a reskinned Trident 660, the bike that it’s largely based on.
