I have such fond memories of throwing a tent and sleeping bag on the back of my bike and taking off somewhere. It is more fun when you do it with friends and your destination is far away. There are so many times that my club, the Road Toads, went on what we called overnight runs, and we always had a great time filled with adventures and lifelong memories.
We all had regular jobs so often our overnighters would start on Friday after everyone got off work. One such time we were headed east and wanted to put a lot of miles on that evening. Eventually we got really tired and decided to stop at a roadside park and just put out our sleeping bags and grab some rest. If you ever decide to do this, make sure you look around where you plan to sleep because early in the wee hours, I was rudely awakened being showered by the sprinklers! Of course I had no pants on, and everyone got a huge laugh at me dragging my bag and gear out of the spraying water in my undershorts!
Embarrassing and wet as it was it created a lifetime memory, and we all went on and had a great time that trip. The freedom of the road is talked about in songs and poems and there really is something to it. You can ride with friends or just take off solo or with your mate. That motorcycle of yours is there waiting for you to go places, have adventures and create memories! And with the gear that is available nowadays you can be pretty comfortable too.
