TIDBITS / NEWS / EVENTS

Just turned 70 a few days ago and I really feel that my bicycling is not only keeping me alive but keeping me younger. I ride my Giant electric bike 40 to 60 miles a week, and 99% of the time it is on the first (lowest) power setting which is identical to the effort required by my regular bicycle. Although, if I hit a hill or a headwind it is sure nice to add a little more power assist so I’m not panting and running out of energy.

A lot of people have an incorrect view of electric bikes and call them cheater bikes. You can actually get MORE exercise on an electric bike than a regular bike. Just turn the power off and you are pedaling a 60lb bicycle. I’m not talking about the Class 2 electric bikes that have a throttle. Those are simply an electric scooter that has pedals. I’m talking about electric bikes that are power assist, which is the majority of ones you will see.

Come in and demo one. You will be amazed!

2023 Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally Pro

Completes Grueling 24-Hour Trial

The latest-generation Tiger passes “Australia’s Ultimate Reliability Test”.

The 24-Hour Trial pits rider and bike against Australia’s unforgiving terrain in what many people deem the “Ultimate Reliability Test”. The event lives up to that billing, with competitors running four six-hour laps and just three 15-minute fuel stops evenly spaced over that period. Twelve timed sections comprise each lap and the rider with the lowest overall time claims victory.

Of course, dedicated enduro bikes fare best in the 24-Hour Trial, but Triumph saw the endurance race as the perfect venue to show of the 2023 Tiger 1200’s durability and off-road pedigree. Unveiled in December, 2021, Hinckley’s latest-generation heavyweight ADV lost 55 pounds but gained a new 1,160cc inline-triple, Showa semi-active suspension, and a host of tech upgrades.

With the range now split into GT and Rally variants, Triumph tapped two-time Isle of Man TT winner Cameron Donald and expert enduro rider Donald Owen to complete the 24-Hour Trial aboard the Rally Pro trim. To get the Tigers in fighting shape, Triumph added crash protection, knobby tires, and an LED light bar, but removed the center stand and pillion mounts for extra weight savings.

Iván Cervantes and Triumph Tiger 900

Win Baja Aragón Trail Class

While development Triumph’s motocross and enduro project forges on, the brand continues to highlight the capabilities of its renewed Tiger lineup. To prove the adventure bike’s rally meddle, Hinckley enlisted five-time enduro world champion Iván Cervantes to vie for the inaugural Trail class title at the 38th Baja España Aragón on July 22-24 in Teruel, Spain.

Triumph specially prepped its Tiger 900 Rally Pro for the occasion with a black/gray/white/Hi-Viz yellow that set the middleweight ADV even further apart from its rivals. With the Baja España Aragón course covering over 450 kilometers (280 miles) of challenging terrain, finishing the rally was no easy feat, but Cervantes passed the test with flying (and fluorescent) colors.
