Both share the same Showa suspension, brakes, wheels and seat height, and both use Ducati's Desmodromic valve system. The real difference is what each one is for: the 250 is built for the 250 class and for riders who love to carry corner speed, and the 450 is built for the premier class.

Choose the Desmo250 MX if…
- You race, or want to race, the 250 class.
- You love keeping a bike revving and carrying speed through the turns.
- You want a bike that rewards smooth, precise lines.

Choose the Desmo450 MX if…
- You race, or want to race, the 450 class.
- You want the big single's drive out of every corner.
- You like electronics that help you put the power down.
Which one fits your riding style?
Here's where the difference shows up on the road.

Racing your class
In motocross, your class picks your bike. The Desmo250 MX lines up in the 250 class, where Ducati developed it in Italy's MX2 championship. The Desmo450 MX lines up in the 450 class, the premier class.
The difference: Pick the class you want to race, and the bike follows.

On the track
The 250 rewards smooth lines and corner speed, and it loves to be kept revving. The 450 drives hard out of every corner, and testers say its electronics help you use what it has.
The difference: The 250 is about momentum. The 450 is about drive.

Practice days at Glen Helen
Plenty of riders never race and simply love a day at the track. Here the choice comes down to feel: the 250 for riders who love a bike that sings, the 450 for riders who want the most pull.
The difference: Ride both if you can. You'll know which one makes you grin.

Desmo250 or Desmo450?
It comes down to what you want to do on the track.
If you're racing the 250 class, or you love a bike you keep on the boil and carry through the turns, the Desmo250 MX is the one.
If you're racing the 450 class, or you want the strongest drive out of every turn, the Desmo450 MX is the one. The 450 is $1,500 more in MSRP.
Our advice: Choose the class first, then the bike. Both share the same suspension, brakes and wheels, so you're getting the same Ducati quality either way.
The best way to decide is to sit on both, back to back. We'll have them side by side for you.
